Inviting Applications for the position of Executive Director for INERELA +  

 INERELA+ (International Network of Religious Leaders Living with or Personally Affected by HIV and AIDS) invites applications for the position of Executive Director.

 

INERELA+ is a network of religious leaders living with or personally affected by HIV and AIDS founded and based in Africa which has recently expanded into in Europe, the Americas and Asia.  The INERELA+ Executive Director will be based in Johannesburg, South Africa, and will oversee the Network’s administration and operations. He/She will be responsible for providing visionary leadership, general management, financial oversight, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and the overall implementation of INERELA+ program activities. The successful incumbent will have had 7 years of progressive technical expertise in the HIV/AIDS field, 3 of which must have been spent at a Senior Managerial level with an international organization, demonstrated large project management and change management skills and the ability to skillfully balance the demands of a wide range of faith constituents.

 

Recognition as a religious leader by a world faith with ordained standing, lay leadership or equivalent will be an added advantage but not a requirement.  An advanced degree in Public/Business Administration or a Development-related field (or equivalent experience) is desirable. Fluency in English is required and ability with one or more United Nations official languages other than English (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) as well as Portuguese is desirable.

Full Job Description:

 

Executive Director

The INERELA+ ED will be responsible for the overall policy, program management and administration of the network.  The Executive Director will report to and advise the Board of Directors and implement its decisions.  The ED will be the Chief Executive Officer and Head of Staff for the organization.

 

Extended Job Description

  1. Overall Administration

The ED will serve as the full time Chief Executive Officer for INERELA+.  It is expected that the ED will divide his or her time between the office and the field in such a manner that he or she is in the secretariat offices at least 70 % time.

  1. Program Management

The ED shall oversee the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all INERELA+ programs

  1. Personnel Management

The ED shall be Head of Staff and shall ensure the implementation of INERELA+ Management and Governance Policies and Procedures..

  1. Financial Management

The ED will be responsible for overall financial management of the organization. He or she shall present annual budgets for recommendation to the Board and shall ensure the implementation of sound business practices, and compliance with donor requirements.

  1. Fundraising

The ED shall be the Chief Development Officer for the organization. He or she will provide overall direction in fundraising efforts including the development of new funding streams, and will participate in fund raising activities by proposals, preparing grant applications, coordinating events, public speaking, working with major donors and Program Staff and stimulating activities of INERELA+ networks in direct fund raising.

The ED will lead in developing and maintaining all major partner and donor relationships.

  1. Personnel

The ED as Head of Staff shall oversee the recruitment of new staff. He/she shall employ, supervise and release of all personnel, both paid staff and volunteers. He/she shall approve all job descriptions, conduct staff performance evaluations, and ensure that sound human resource practices are in place and enforced. He shall encourage staff development and provide for continuing education for all. He will manage staff in a way that is fair, professional, collegial and supportive. He/she shall maintain an office climate that attracts, keeps, and motivates a diverse staff of highly qualified professionals.

  1. Program Development

The ED develops and recommends to the Board new program initiatives. He/she evaluates all current programs and implements or proposes modifications or program terminations. He or she oversees  the Programs Director and assists in managing and developing the programs.

  1. Planning

The ED, with the participation of other staff, develops and recommends to the Board an annual strategic plan for the development and maintenance of programs and activities.

  1. Public Relations

The ED is the Chief Spokesperson for the organization. He or she will be responsible for the interpretation of the INERELA+ concepts and values to the global community.

The ED will work in conjunction with other key Staff in representing INERELA+ to the media and general public.  This will involve direct involvement through public relations programs, personal contacts, public speaking, literature and the media. The ED, with input and assistance for all staff, develops and publishes ‘with Board approval’ an Annual Report.

  1. Board Relations and Executive Committee

The ED will be an ex officio Member of the Board of Directors with voice but without vote. He/she will keep the Board informed on program activities. The ED will assist the Board in policy formulation, policy actions, and will also ensure the implementation of policies adopted by the Board. The ED will be the Secretary of the Executive Committee with vote and shall convene meetings of the EC at regular intervals each year.

  1. Communication

The ED shall ensure that the Board of Directors is kept fully informed of the condition of the organization and all important factors affecting and influencing it.. He/she shall oversee the public release of news and information about the organization’s activities, its programs and its goals. He/she shall establish sound working relationships and cooperative arrangements with the partners at international and grassroots level He/she shall represent the programs and point of view of the organization to all partners, agencies, organizations, institutions and the global public.

Qualifications

Proven leadership qualities
Superior administrative, programmatic, management and interpersonal skills

5-10 years experience in the management of non-profit organizations required

5-10 years Experience with HIV and AIDS Services Organizations or similar organization required

3-5 years experience as a Trainer of Trainers required

Experience working with volunteer staff preferred

Fluency in English required-Ability with one or more United Nations official languages besides English (i.e., Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) as well as Portuguese is desirable

Recognized as a religious leader by a world faith with ordained standing or equivalent will be an added advantage but not a requirement.

A Person living with HIV will be an added advantage but not a strong requirement.

Minimum Education Level:
Advanced Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Development Studies and Public Health, or any other related fields.  Persons without an advanced degree but have at least 10 years experience in program management will be considered.

Terms of Employment

The position is offered on a five (5) year contract based in Johannesburg-South Africa with a possibility of a renewal in accordance with the program funding for that year. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience.
